AUBURN, Alabama – Ole Miss Women’s Soccer remains hot, fresh off its third straight win to start conference play with a 1-0 second half at Auburn on Sunday afternoon. The win marks the first 3-0 SEC start for the Rebels in program history.
by Mary Kate McGuire sixth goal of the season in the 57th minute propelled the Rebels to their first victory over the Plains since 2018.
The first half saw both teams take risks at the net with Auburn edging out Ole Miss 5-3.
Ashley Orkus worked hard in front of goal for the first 45 minutes, making three saves, the most in a single half all season. For his final save of the half, Orkus stopped a shot into the top left corner in the 23rd minute.
The Rebels kicked into high gear to start the second half, taking four shots in the first 12 minutes of the second half, with the fourth heading for goal.
On the right side, Riley Friesen found the leader Mr Aubrey with McGuire finishing the job in net to put the Rebels ahead 1-0. Friesen and Mister’s assist gave both their second assists of the season.
Auburn tried to even the score, staying close to the goal. The Tigers fired one final shot as time ticked away, but failed to get past Orkus.
Orkus finished the game with five saves and his career-high eighth shutout of the season. The fifth-year senior moves up to second all-time in Ole Miss history in saves and shutouts.
Ole Miss hosts No. 18 Tennessee at Ole Miss Football Stadium Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT for their only game of the week. Tilt Against Thefts will be available to stream via SEC Network+.
