Lincoln Blacksmith competing on The History Channel for the second time

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – In 2019, a UNL student showcased his blacksmithing skills on The History Channel. Next week he is recognized for a second time as he takes on the younger competitors.

With a face shield and his bare hands, Colton Arias is busy in his store in Ceresco. He’s busy crafting anything from bottle openers to kitchen knives and even swords.

In 2019, at just 18, Colton was the youngest contestant to win “Forged In Fire” on The History Channel. Recently he was selected to be on the show again.

“Basically, they take four of the youngest champions and they are all vying for the title of champion of the title of youngest two-time champion on Forged in Fire,” said Colton Arias.

This summer, Colton left Nebraska and traveled to Connecticut for the shoot, which lasted for 3 weeks.

“It was really cool to meet the judges, to see the set, to be able to take part in the TV show that I had been watching for so long,” Arias said.

The 20-year-old is back to school at UNL, fulfilling custom orders and teaching blade forging classes at his store.

“Sometimes in Menards I’m recognized because a lot of these guys watch Forged in Fire. I guess, ”he laughed.

It’s a unique claim to fame, but one that he hopes to share with others.

“I think there are only three blacksmiths in Lincoln,” Arias said. “If you are, hit me. I’m always looking for more to network with.

The young gun champions will be presented on Wednesday, December 8 at 9 p.m. The Blacksmith is having a night of public watch at Risky’s Sports Bar and Grill near 48th Street and Leighton Avenue.

“In high school, no one really knew what Blade Forge was,” Arias said. “All my friends were like ‘You make knives, that’s kinda weird.’ Once they saw it was a bit legit and there was a TV show about it and I went on and demonstrated my skills, I think they thought it was was really cool.
