Men’s basketball heads to UCF for Wednesday’s game

ORLANDO – Temple Men’s Basketball will face a familiar foe on Wednesday (7 p.m. / ESPN + / 1210 AM WPHT) when they face the UCF Knights at the Addition Financial Arena. The Owls (7-6, 0-2 AAC) will be looking for their first American Athletic Conference victory while the Knights (9-3, 1-1 AAC) will be looking for a winning streak against the visitors.

The teams met three weeks ago in Philadelphia and UCF claimed a 65-48 victory at the Liacouras Center in the conference opener for both programs.

> Damien dunn leads the Owls in points (13.6 points per game), rebounds (4.9 strokes per game), steals (16) and free throw percentage (47-56, 0.839). Dunn has since resumed his game Battle of Khalif (21.4 points per game) has been sidelined for the year, averaging 16.5 points per game over the past six games.
> Jeremiah Williams is the team’s second scorer (9.2 points per game) and runs the show offensively. He leads the Owls in assists (4.8 apg, 5th AAC) and minutes per game (31.1).
> The sixth man of the Temple, Tai Strickland, who missed Houston with a back problem, is next with 8.2 points per game, while leading the team with a three-point percentage (9-25, 0.360).
> Jake forrester, who missed the Houston game with an unrelated Covid illness, leads the team in field goal percentage (0.544) with an average of 6.2 ppg and 4.2 rpg.
> Nick jourdain (4.0 points per game), who has started the last three games, leads the team in blocks (1.6 bpg / 3rd AAC) and is second in rebound (rpg) and Jahlil White (4.7 ppg / 4.5 rpg) round out the starting five.
> Zach Hicks (5.5 points per game), who set a school record with 10 lines against Delaware State, recently offended the bench. He leads the team with 19 threes (.358).

> The Knights have won two of their last three games since defeating Temple on Dec. 15 in Philadelphia, 85-48.
> Darin Green, Jr leads UCF and ranks eighth in the conference with 15.1 points per game. Green also dominates the Knights and ranks second in the AAC in three runs scored (37) and percentage (0.435).
> As a team, UCF is tied for third in the conference for the three points scored (8.0 pg).
> Darius Perry (11.3 ppg) and Brandon Mahan (10.9 ppg) are also averaging double digits for the Knights, closely followed by CJ Walker (9.5 ppg, 6.0 shots per game).
> Mbacke Cheikh Doing (6.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.8 bpg) is the other starter of the team.

> Temple and UCF meet for the 17th time in series history, with the Owls holding a 9-7 advantage.
> The Owls had won the last three meetings, before the Knights ended the streak with a 65-48 victory at the Liacouras Center on December 15.
> Ahead of last month’s game, UCF’s last win in the series came on Jan. 2, 2018, 78-73, in Orlando.
> Last season’s UCF game scheduled for February 27, 2021 has been called off due to covid protocol issues within the Temple program.
> Temple is 3-4 against UCF in Orlando.
