Pierce Brosnan will present the biggest heists in history for The History Channel

Today it was announced that the History Channel is partnering with James Bond himself Pierce Brosnan. Brosnan has signed on to host a new non-fiction series for the channel called The greatest heists in history with Pierce Brosnanwhich will explore some of the greatest heists in history.

The greatest heists in history with Pierce Brosnan will be an hour-long series that will explore some of the “most incredible and elaborate” heists ever made. The series will use “cinematic recreations and cutting-edge visual effects” to tell the stories of these iconic heists. Each episode is said to focus on a heist that will explore every aspect of it. They will discuss the “brand” of the heist, the plan, how the heist actually happened, and the fallout from it all.


Two heists confirmed to be covered in the eight-episode first season are the 1899 Wilcox train robbery and the 1950 Boston Great Brink robbery. The Wilcox train robbery, while technically unsolved, was reportedly led by the infamous Butch Cassidy and the Gang of thugs. The robbery saw a group of gunmen board a Pacific Union train outside Wilcox Wyoming and steal at least $36,000, which when adjusted for inflation amounts to over a million dollars today. Meanwhile, the Great Brink robbery in Boston saw the armed robbery of the Brink Building, a private security company, the thieves get away with nearly $30 million in today’s currency. The heist was dubbed the “crime of the century” at the time.

About the role of host of the series, Brosnan had this to say:

I can’t wait to travel back in time to break down the amazing story behind these real-life heists, from the analysis of the brains themselves to the elaborate schematics that have transcended time.

“Since there has been money, people have devised schemes to try to seize it. From the first horse-drawn train robbery of the Wild West to today’s complex capers, heists throughout history have become legends and who better to take viewers through this thrilling, high-stakes journey than Pierce.

The greatest heists in history with Pierce Brosnan is produced for The History Channel by Big Fish Entertainment and Anchor Entertainment. Dan Cesareo, Lucille D’Agostino and Jordana Starr will serve as executive producer of the series for Big Fish Entertainment along with Ethan Goldman executive producer for Anchor Entertainment and Mary E. Donahue and jennifer wagman executive producer for The History Channel.
