CHAMPAGNE, Ill. – Illinois Men’s Gymnastics Acting Head Coach Daniel Ribeiro will be the director of gymnastics for Team USA for the Maccabiah Games, July 5-26 in Israel.

“I’m very happy to represent Team USA as Director of Gymnastics,” Ribeiro said. “I will oversee the senior and junior men’s and women’s teams at this year’s Maccabiah Games. We have an incredibly talented group of athletes this year who will be fighting for medal opportunities on the world stage.”

Around 10,000 athletes compete in the three-week competition across three circuits – the Junior Circuit (athletes 18 and under), the Open and Para Circuit and the Masters Circuit.

About the Maccabee
The first Maccabiah was held in Ramat Gan in 1932 with the participation of 390 athletes from 18 countries. Traditionally held every four years, interrupted only by World War II, by 2017 the Games had grown to include nearly 10,000 Jewish athletes from over 75 countries competing in 40 sports, making it the third-largest event international multisport in the world after only the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup. The Maccabi USA delegation to the 20th Maccabiah in the summer of 2017 had 1,131 members, the largest traveling delegation in the history of not just Jewish sporting events, but any international multi-sport competition.
